Saturday
Hello, sweet,
Well here it is another Saturday nite and it looks as though it's going to be rather quiet but I don't care - today has been lots of fun - How did you like the game? Sure felt good to see Oregon beat OSC by such a score - guess it kinda surprised most of the experts - wish you could have been there to see it - and me -
Mr. Couch and I left Portland about 9:00 this morning and finally got to Corvallis about 11:15 after driving through fog most of the way - Had lunch at Mr. Bork's house - he is Comptroller of the State System - Mrs. Byrne was also there and Mr. Byrne came over later - He kidded me a little about not being married yet but I reassured him and told him it wouldn't be long now - they want us to come over for a little while when I am in Eugene again, so we'll plan on it for the 14th or 15th -
I certainly hope you are practically well again - are you going to work Monday or are you going to continue being a lady of leisure - how are your plans coming for getting up to Portland - are you going to take the train or not - at any rate, just so you get here is all that matters - this is a long three weeks and I'm glad our schedule for the rest of December is fixed so that this doesn't happen again - do you know, sweet, I just can't wait for these days to pass -
Getting back to the football game, we really had some swell seats - right smack on the 50 yard line - surrounded by all the notables of the State of Oregon - Gov. Sprague was just 2 rows directly in front of us and Senator Mott a couple of seats over - also saw all the gals from the Chancellor's office, and had quite a pleasant chat with Mary Elizabeth - Just about everyone around us was yelling for Oregon State, but Mr. Couch and I did our part for Oregon - we sure got back to Portland in a hurry after the game and I was eating dinner here at the usual time -
Oh yes - something else I wanted to tell you - At Mr. Bork's this noon, I was in the kitchen for a few minutes talking to Mrs. Byrne, and I overheard Mr. Byrne in the other room ask Mr. Couch how I was getting along up there - and Mr. Couch said "fine" and I think he meant it - so I have been feeling pretty good since - I'm sure they don't know I heard them either -
Gosh darn it - I still wish I could have got down to Eugene today to see you - why, just think - I was only 40 miles away - just doesn't seem right, but I guess there's nothing that can be done about it -
You are awfully sweet telling me you read each of my letters about 10 times - anyway I hope they have cheered you up a little this last week - you know I wanted them to - but when it comes to writing letters I still think yours are better than mine - so there -
Happy December -
Love and Kisses,
Bill
