Our parents, Bill and Dotty, met when they were going to college at the University of Oregon. These are their letters to each other during the times they were apart, before they got married on Easter Sunday, April 13, 1941. The blog starts in June of 1938,when our mother went back to Portland to spend the summer with her grandmother, while our father stayed in Eugene to work. Monroe Lumber Company
Curious about the Monroe Lumber Company, I did an internet search. The only link I could find was for the Storms Family Foundation, which mentions that Mark Storms started the Monroe Lumber Company, moving to Oregon from Iowa in 1944. Since Dotty worked at Monroe Lumber in 1940, I emailed the Foundation to see if they had any more information.
Happily, one of Mark's daughters, Anna Storms Ingram, replied to me, explaining: "My Dad's family was in the wholesale lumber business in Fort Madison, Iowa. It was called Charles W. Storms Lumber. My Dad actually started Monroe Lumber Company earlier than 1944. But, Dad and Mom didn't move out to Oregon from Iowa until 1944. Dad sent my uncle, Ed Eberdt, out ahead of him to conduct the lumber business. There was a man by the name of Selori. He was one of my Dad's partners that came out from Iowa."
