September 18, 1940 Wednesday

                                                                             Wednesday -
Hello - sweet -
The days are not going quite so slow - We worked till 7:00 tonight - Bob has gone on his vacation so we will probably be working hard all week -
The party was quite a success and Ruth Mae D.J. got quite a few nice things - (Don't know where my mind is but it's sure wandering).  Ruth May fixed up the cutest umbrella under which to put the presents - doilies and little pink ribbons on it -  We did play a little bridge and I didn't win -
It was nice of you to pay Paul for the tube - I didn't realize that he had to have it right away or I would have given it to him sooner.  But now, can you wait till the 31st? -  I hope -  I have just a few sheckles till then-
Will Von want a date and for me to get it - Or couldn't he call up someone he knows when he gets here?-  There are a lot of kids here now -  Or if he tells me who he would like to go with - anyway let me know -
Aunt Hetty & Uncle Dow certainly like you - She mentioned just yesterday she hoped I would marry you!-
I simply must study tonight -  If I just had a little more umph -  Do you think I will ever get it finished?-
Lorraine called up today and wanted to know could I come for dinner Sat & Sun, etc. to help with rushing.  I told her I didn't think so -  Do you think it would be terrible if I didn't go?-  I suppose I should be loyal to the cause - but I don't care - and besides I don't feel like rushing -
It's getting colder and there's a nip in the air -  It snowed in the high hills -
Please write soon and hurry down Sat.
                                             More & more love
                                                               Dotty

                                                                        Wednesday
Hello - sweet,
Looks as though we both missed a letter - guess your shower took up as much of your time as the D.V. banquet did mine -  by the way, how was it - and did you win the bridge prize, I hope-
I started to write you last nite and then Von came over and we went to the banquet, which wasn't over until about 9:50 - too late then - afterwards Von and I and a salesman who works for Linde Air by the name of Jack McDonald went to the Actor's Club and had a couple of whiskey sours - this place is really a hot spot and much more classy than the Stork Club and the like - We almost got raided and everything - they were certainly pushing the slot machines into the cubby holes -
Just read your letter of last Monday again and it sounded as though you didn't feel so hot Monday - but after all what can you expect of a Monday -
I am looking forward to having a lot of fun in Eugene this weekend; hope the rest of this week goes by in a hurry - according to present plans we ought to get there about the usual time - 4 o'clock - Saturday -  I think I will probably eat dinner Sat. nite at the fraternity just to see what the situation is - but I intend to spend the rest of the weekend with you if you don't mind except maybe for a little golf Sunday AM early if it isn't raining too hard.
By the way, Von would like very much to know if Dotty Lou Hanan is around Eugene this week - if she is, you might mention that he is coming down this weekend and would like very much to take her out - let me know if she is there and maybe I can have Von call her up or something before Saturday -
Looked up the town of Wheeler on the map and it seems to be about 40 miles up from Tillamook, a few miles in from the Ocean on the Salmonberry River, I think -
Have been working pretty hard about half the time this week, and sitting around the other half - Have been having a hell of a time trying to see Mr. Couch for more than 5 minutes but it's practically impossible - Tomorrow he is going down to Roseburg to make a 1-hour speech before th annual convention of the Oregon Nurses Assoc -  and tomorrow is golf day too -
Hope I get a long sweet letter from you tomorrow - I kinda missed not hearing from you today -
                                                           Love and kisses,
                                                                   Bill
