March 4, 1941 Tuesday "...we are going to live in Marquam Manor"

                                                                                      Tuesday

Hello, dear -
Have been working on the apartment situation and it looks as though it is practically settled - we are going to live in Marquam Manor.  Here's the situation - the cute little new apartments we looked at last are not going to be vacant by April 1 - I saw the girl today and there isn't a chance, so I guess it's just too bad - So tonite I went over to Marquam Manor, and there will be two vacancies on April 1, so we get our choice - one is on the 4th floor, east, $40 unfurnished, $45 furnished, 3 rooms - the other on the first floor, north $32.50 furnished, the same as the other, except no bedroom.  Both apartments are being done over and will all be redecorated, which will help.  So I told her you were coming up this weekend and we would decide then and put down a deposit and cinch the deal - So what do you think, sweet - Personally, I am in favor of the $32.50 one, for a while, anyway.  After all, we can always get a more expensive one later, say about July or thereabouts, after we see how the financial set-up is working out - But we'll talk it over this weekend -
I am going out tomorrow and buy a couple of tickets to the tennis matches Saturday nite, so you better be sure and come up this weekend, or I would have to take somebody else - or would I?
Ran my car through the testing station today and it passed O.K. - the brakes were better now than when they were tested 6 months ago - can't figure it out - Also they didn't notice that my speedometer was not functioning, so that probably wasn't important -
Listen, dear, didn't get a letter today - and after I wrote two yesterday - so I hope you make up for it tomorrow -
                                                                         Love and kisses,
                                                                                   Bill

Hello, puddin -
I got the keys O.K. - 7:30 this morning - thanks a lot only I didn't really need them - but it was awful sweet of you to send them - I sure got sleepy this afternoon - and Lindstrom knows I'm quitting the 5th -  He asked me today - and it was all right with him - He said he'd even like to have me work longer -
Guess I'll come to Portland for sure - There are a lot of things I have to do - Can you meet me at the train at 8:00 A.M. Sat. morning - You see the only train that will get me in Portland in time to do anything leaves at 4:00 here. - But I don't mind too much cause that gives me all day - Ruth may come with me or may come on the 12:20 train - She'll think it over -
Haven't heard from John Dick, but guess I will soon -
Yippee little Joe!  Here it is Tuesday - And, my dear, hope you can cinch the apartment deal - I am anxious to know where we are going to live -
I sure do a lot of thinking about you - It's a good thing that none of my jobs are awfully important -
Do you know what dear my throat is beginning to act up a tiny bit - but I'm going to nip it in the bud. - I'll buy some peroxide tonight and gargle like the dickens - I think that helped it before -
Am going for another fitting on my dress and suit tonite - They'll soon be finished -
                                   See you Saturday -
                                             All my love
                                                    Dotty
