October 1, 1940 Tuesday

                                                                                 Monday
Bill, dear -
Your letter was so sweet - But do you know, I came home at 4:30, and no letter - I sure felt bad, but the mail-man was just horribly late -
And now dear - guess what - Gamma Alpha Chi is having a convention at Pullman, Wash. - and I can go with expenses paid - only it is the weekend of the Washington game. - We leave here Thurs. morning and arrive back late Sun. night - We stop in Portland Sun to have dinner - at home supposedly - but I could see you then - I hate missing seeing you Fri & Sat - but I think the trip should be kind of fun - and I can get off work to go - I will tell you more this weekend -
I'll try to see Ken to see if it will be all right for you to stay there - Paul borrowed his golf clubs Sunday and I guess I'll have to take them back sometime soon -
Called Karl today to see about a refund on a silly old athletic ticket I got and can't use - He wanted to know if you were coming and what not - I told him I thot so -
And now - I'm trying to buck up courage to go to the library - I sure don't want to, but I will.  I'm certainly getting tired of a lot of things - which I didn't care quite so much and then it would be all right -
Melba and I ran out of gas this morning.  That's twice we've done it - but never again - It is funny tho - I wish you were here - I'm just bursting and yet can't seem to write anything - And then when you are here I probably won't have a thing to say - The time had better not go so slow or I'll be a raving maniac - (no I won't) -
                                                                      All my love,
                                                                           Dotty

P.S.  Whatcha gonna get me for Christmas?

                                                                          Tuesday
Hello, Dotty -
Am very unhappy on account of not receiving the usual sweet little letter from you today - and you know that's the big moment in my day, too - I guess I am missing you too much nowadays, but I will tell you all about that Saturday -
How are you getting along with your school work - now that Mr. Zane is gone, maybe it's going to be harder to get "A"s or what do you think -
Had quite a time last night at the Nu Sigma Nu affair; the beer was really flowing freely and practically the whole Medical School student body was there - the program and entertainment consisted exclusively of girls - need I say more - and everyone seemed to be having lots of fun -  Afterwards Dick and I went out and had a chocolate milk shake and a peanut butter sandwich - tasted very good -
Von called up and suggested that we take the nurses out tonite - but I am letting him take care of that alone - do you suppose that one of these nights I will maybe break down and get a date - could be, but I am beginning to doubt it -
By the way, remember to see Battleson for me - also if you see Tony you might mention that I'm coming down and probably would like to play a little golf unless he is playing in the tournament yet -
Only Wed, Thurs, and Friday to do - I can hardly wait -
                                                     Lots of love,
                                                            Bill
