August 12, 1940 from Dotty

                                                                                  Monday

Hello dearest -
Seems years since you were here - today went by so slow - Celorie didn't come down at all - Thank goodness - We didn't have to work hard - but it was enough for me.  I'm sure getting lazy -
Guess what -  I am going to study tonight - yes sir - and tomorrow night too - Walked clear up to Margo's tonight and found she'd gone to Portland - fine thing - Did you get there in good shape?  -  And I do hope you weren't too tired -
Sure had a dicken's of a time starting my car this morning.  Guess just letting it stand still isn't good for it.
Will sure be glad when pay day comes.  For some reason I can hardly wait - it will sure be fun paying bills and getting that much done toward getting out of debt. - I'm sure in the swing of it now and nothing will talk me out of it -  Sure feel industrious in that one way.
You know, that swimming was a lot of fun yesterday - Maybe next time you're here if it's warm enough, we can go in the evening.  Wouldn't that be fun? -
Am going to knit some more tonight and get that finished - and then start on something else.  Oh joy, oh gladness - for lots of time and with what I couldn't do - probably nothing -
Hon - this isn't much of a letter but I just can't seem to come down to earth and concentrate much - will you forgive me? -
Am looking forward very much to your letter tomorrow -
                                                     Lots & lots of love,
                                                             Dotty
