August 13, 1940 from Bill

                                                                    Tuesday nite

Dear Dotty -
Have just finished moving from 1722 to 1831 SW 14th -  Bob Mosier helped me pack my stuff up and down the stairs and it wasn't too much work -  This looks as though it's going to be a lot of fun -  hope the food's good -  From what I've seen so far this is the typical boarding house - it's a great big rambling house with lots of room and it seems to be very clean - oh yes - both men and women live here - will tell you more later -
Have read your letter a number of times now and is is very sweet -  And we'll make it a point to go out to Shady Nook again the next time I'm down - which I hope will be this weekend -  Since writing you last night, I found another gas slip for $2.53, which should be added to the $8.88 I mentioned before - for the month of August that ain't bad considering this is only the 13th -
After paying my board and room to the 1st of the month I'll have just seven dollars left for the rest of the month - guess I'll have to do some quick thinking about ways and means -
We have two radios up here and Bob is listening to one program and I am listening to another one -  really sounds good - maybe we'll get together later in the evening -
Guess I feel the same way as you do - it seems like an awful long time since I saw you last and here it was only day before yesterday - do you suppose I am silly or something - anyway I am going to start counting the days till I see you again - By the way, just as a matter of information, do you know that this is the 240th day of the year - or maybe it's the 226th - really it's not important anyway -
I am having just one hell (pardon me) of a time keeping busy at the office -  Have done as much as I can do on everything and must wait for Mr. Couch now -  Also have read a bunch of books and looked over a mass of statistical data and charts -
Guess I'll just lock up the door and sleep until the phone rings - However maybe I better take it easy now as I have a hunch this is just the lull before the storm - starting next week things are going to begin to pop -
I saw some very beautiful little birds in a curio shop this afternoon - so after the budget starts getting balanced I am going down and start making weekly purchases - but you better not start holding your breath for a while yet -
I am going to walk down town and mail this - aren't you proud - it's only about 10 blocks but I wouldn't do it for anybody but you ---
                                                              Love and kisses,
                                                                        Bill

Took photos of 1831 SW 14th, and Joni will post them. It probably looks pretty much the same today, except for the handicap ramp on the left side which ends in that little gazebo-type thing. 1722 SW 14th, where he moved from, was torn down when I-405 was built. When we drove by, Daddy used to mention that he lived at 1831 when he first started working at the medical school. Wish I had asked him which room.
