August 19, 1940 from Bill again

                                                               Monday
Hello, sweet -
Have jut finished reading your two letters - so here I am writing another one myself - if the mails go according to schedule you should receive two of these Tuesday which should pleasantly surprise you I hope -
Had a lot of fun today at the office being busy all the time - Couch came back today and says now he needs a vacation - so for the next two weeks he is coming in only on Mondays & Thursdays for a couple hours each - Meanwhile I will take care of all the dirty work -  He also says if an emergency comes up I shall jump into my car and buzz out to the Tualitin River and get him - sounds like fun -
Looks like you spent rather a quiet weekend - for a change -
All the knitting and hope chests & stuff sound pretty good to me too -  How I am looking forward to next summer - if you only knew - or do you?
Got a card from Karl today - he is 65 miles down into Mexico, getting more sunburned all the time --
Von and I are going to the local movie at the Paramount tonite and see George Raft and Ann Sheridan - Wish you were here - By the way Von says of all the girls in Eugene he would like most to take out Mary Hunt so if Margo isn't available you might try her -
By the way, I think it would be wiser for you, also less expensive, to buy a good second-hand tire or a retread, rather than a new one - but you do whatever you think best - I'll call Paul tomorrow and see what he says --

                                                                         Love,
                                                                             Bill
