August 26, 1940 from Bill

                                                                 Monday

Hello, sweet -
Here I am again back to the old routine - feeling not too sharp of a Monday, writing a letter to you, and thinking back on what a swell weekend it was again -
Von and I rolled out at 4:30 this a.m.  had breakfast at the bus depot and picked up Mose -  We hit Milwaukie about 7:20 which ain't bad at all --- The car was really squeaking, but I went down today and they took out all the squesks free for nothing gratis -
I am counting on you to get those snapshots from Tony - if you could manage to borrow them for a few days maybe you could send them up as I would kinda like to see them - Oh yes please tell Tony I didn't mean to run off with his other snapshots but I found them in my coat pocket this morning -  I'll bring them down next time or maybe I'll just send them down and you can give them to him -
Had a good day at the office - quite a discussion with Mr. Couch and also met Mr. Mudd from Salem, the State Property Controller - Mr. Couch is slowly shoving off a bunch of the dictating on me, but it's kind of fun-
By the way, it would be muchly appreciated if you would start planning something for next weekend so I could know whether to come down or you were coming up or something - If I could get a couple of passengers maybe I should come down, maybe - However if you came up we could have fun too - Maybe you better call up Hertly too -
Oh yes Mr Couch says if you came up next weekend he would like very much for us to come out for an afternoon - I think this is a matter for serious thought, because when he sees you and realizes what a beautiful and wonderful girl you are then he will probably get to thinking that I must not be such a bad guy myself and perhaps if you think I am all right so then he will want to hire me permanently more quickly or am I getting involved or does it matter - but it's something to keep in mind -
How is the tire and tube - I hope nobody purloined the little beauty - and if not then that you got the man to install it at not too prohibitive a price -
Tonight I am going to take the trunk out to your Aunt Edna's - then I am coming back and go to bed - haven't had sleep in large quantities lately - as you are aware -
Just happened to think - remember I am in Portland now and not in Eugene - when you are addressing your letters - on account of I am always deeply grieved not to find one when I get back here in the evening -
Have the picture of the 4 golfers (?) hanging above my desk - looks pretty good- thank you again -
                                                               Love and kisses,
                                                                          Bill

PS:  And I will write every day - wait & see ---
