August 20, 1940 from Dotty but addressed wrong so returned

                                                 Tuesday
Bill, dear-
I was certainly glad to get your letters today - Monday I didn't know what to think - One minute I was never going to speak to you again - the next I thought maybe you didn't love me anymore - and then the next I was going to call up to see if you were dying form double pneumonia or somepin! -
Anyhoo, you are forgiven now after you sweet letter today.
My weekend was very, very uneventful - Sounds like you did have fun - wish I coulda been there too and help you enjoy it.  But I'm saving up for this weekend - if I don't forget how to act on a date in the meantime - you know one can get out of practise.
Margo will be on her way home Saturday and Mary Hunt is in Los Angeles for two weeks.  Now I don't know who Bob would like to go with, but here are a few prospects, and you can write so I'll know by Thursday if he has any preference.  Priscilla Norton, Alpha Phi freshman, - Bev. Burns, Apha Chi Sophomore, - Virginia Goodlow - cute little Eugene redhead - you might remember her from our Crescent Lake trip - and Peggy somebody - another cute Eugene girl - course don't know for sure about any - but I know I can get someone that will be o.k. - oh yes, and Jacqueline Laroway - D.G. freshman -
About my tire - went to see if I could sell my old ones - no soap - aren't worth a thing - and, too, a good retread costs $8.00 so I told them I'd still buy a new one for $6.00 - a car sure costs lots of money -
Just went down to the city library and took out 3 books to read.  While the other library is closed I might as well be working on my English novel course - Oh happy day - Will I be glad when I am finished with it all -
Saw Doc Parsons - he's getting fatter all the time, "good old Doc" - we both exclaimed how everyone is getting married - Said he might even do it himself - Anyway he doesn't think he'll be back next year - Gosh everyone I know or knew is leaving the campus.  Guess I'll have to get better acquainted with the young uns -
How was the picnic?  Hope I didn't run into too much competition.  Did you see Beverly? - She was going to call you and give you my love - Darn, again I wish I were in Portland -  Sure is quiet around here - maybe tho it's just cause I stay home and try to make me study - But I can be truer to you that way -
I am stepping out Thursday tho, D.J. is giving a bridge dessert Thursday - so I will get to see a few of the kids again and find out what is what -
Gee - gotta run like the devil to get this mailed. Gooby now and lots of love -

[And added in to the envelope after the letter was returned]:

Why am I so doggone absent minded?! -
Here - one of my more important letters I address wrong - anyway you can see I tried to do the right thing - Now I have to use my own judgement - Tell Bob I've got him a date or somepin -
See you Saturday -
