August 14, 1940, evening - from Dotty

                                                                    Tuesday

Bill, dear -
Your letter was so sweet - I just have to read it over and over.  Your new place sounds all right  - And it should be better than staying alone.  And wow, your gas bill - something should be done - cause that is a lot -  But still you did make a couple long trips - I will miss seeing you if you don't come up this weekend, but I know how it is with the money - much too well I guess (from experience) - so you do what you think you should.  I have my studying, knittin', etc to keep me busy.
My little sweater's all finished and it sure is cute.  Guess I will have to make one for my hope chest?!  -  Do you know what I'm going to do - I have gathered together some of my old clothes that I never wear and I'm going to try to sell them tomorrow.  Don't know how it'll seem doing it - but it's better than giving them away - so cross your fingers for me tomorrow and hope I won't blush too much.  Also I think I am going to have to buy another tire - Damit - If I do and get it thru Paul, could you bring it up for me when you come?! -
So now I'm going to jump into Damit and whip down to the depot -
                                                    Lots of love & kisses
                                                             Dotty -

P.S. Wish you were here all the time.
